This assignment explored the visual impact of long exposure photography, focusing on how extended shutter speeds can transform motion into fluid, dynamic imagery. By using a shutter speed of 15 seconds or longer, the technique captures movement over time, creating soft, continuous flows with a moving object. For this project, students selected a single type of motion to study. I chose moving water as my subject, allowing me to highlight the contrast between still environments and flowing elements. The long exposure technique smooths the water’s movement, giving it an almost ethereal, mist-like quality while maintaining sharp detail in the surrounding landscape. These photographs were taken in Duluth, Minnesota, during the fall of 2023 using a professional camera. The project emphasized both technical precision and post-processing, with careful attention to image quality, exposure balance, and editing.
